Finding Ivy Event

City LIT Institute

22nd May 2024

By Lloyd Page

We were welcomed by Simon Jarrett and he showed us the exhibition. Then we went into the theatre. The lecture was being chaired by Mr Ed Balls, chairman of War Holocaust Committee and was previously the Home Secretary under Gordon Brown. He introduced Helen Atherton, Stephen Unwin and Florian Schwanninger. Helen started off by telling the story of Ivy Angerer and how she was killed.

Helen sad that the methods that the Nazi's used during the 1940's was very different from today. However, she said that the outcome for people with learning disabilities dying today for inappropriate DNAR's was the same.

The event ended with a performance by the Corali Dance Company and the music came from City LIT group for people with learning disabilities and the Royal Philharmonic Society.
